Winter Range

Many Great Lakes plovers are banded with the distinctive orange "flag" of the Great Lakes population. We have a growing database of sightings of Great Lakes Piping Plovers in their winter range, thanks to reported sightings and field surveys. We hope to continue to receive sightings and continue learning more about the migration and wintering habitat preferences of the Great Lakes Piping Plover.
